Moonstone can be found in Brazil, the European Alps, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Sri Lanka, and parts of the United States. In India today, as in many other places, it is still considered a sacred stone. In India it was believed that Moonstone grew under the rays of the Moon and absorbed its mystical qualities. Romans believed it had the power to endow love, wealth, and wisdom. Legend says that Moonstone is a highly prized gift for lovers for it arouses tender passions.
This is a very powerful and strong gemstone and can be used for many purposes. If you want to use Moonstone as part of your meditations, you can either sit and hold it in your receptive (non-dominant) hand or, if you are lying down, place it on the heart, solar plexis, or the third eye.
During the waning phase of the Moon, place your Moonstone on the windowsill. The rays of the Moon will recharge it and attune its energies to the receding tides. However, Moonstone is at its most powerful during the full moon. Place the Moonstone in a crystal, glass, or clay bowl. Add some spring water. Place the bowl outdoors under the full moon. Visualize the moon's rays filling the bowl with energy. Store the water to use in healing rituals, for cleansing stones, purification, and other Moon Magick. Place under your pillow for a restful sleep.
