POSTED BY: "BLACKBIRD" BLACKBIRD 61@YAHOO.COM BLACKBIRD 61 Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:24 am (PDT) Hi All, My Apologies for posting what might be seen as the 3rd Negative card in a row, but I think its a subject worth addressing just today; I recently pulled a reading for a Friend, (Quite off list) that featured the Queen of Pents Rx, speaking to my mind of the Demands of Motherhood; and it's capacity to gobble up the rest of a young mothers life; then today in my email I notice this Article in Salon. Forbes' odd most powerful women list: The magazine's tribute to female movers and shakers can't help noting their marital status and children. And as I had just been mentioning to my friend, how I have seen just amazing things in my life; how women have really reshaped the world, and yet the thing most resistant to change,... women our view of Women. As underscored by this Article. Why is it necessary to note that Janet Napolitano is "single" is running the Dept of Homeland security a Hobby, something she's doing to bid her time till she finds a man? And is a woman's value at the end of the Day wholly contingent on her proven ability to crank out little men? My own Daughter is an Artist, I very much expect her Legacy will be written Canvass not bed linen, and I have never had a problem with that myself. Her Ex apparently did... that's a big part of the reason they broke up.... so I am not without a dog in this fight. And while at a Glance this might seem off topic,... IMHO it's not, As readers the bulk of Patrons/Clients are woman, very often they are searching for love, as often as not that search is tied to a larger search for self worth. As readers we need to be Consciously Aware of the Subconscious, sub textual demands put on our Qs (and often ourselves) by Friends, Family the Culture at large. Some times so we can offer a sympathetic ear, sometimes so we can find the words to help a person challenge un-realistic expectations. Consider for a Moment the Empress*, she is Venus in Taurus, she is Fertility itself. She is the Gaia, A deep and profound and perhaps most basic Expression of the Goddess; A magnificent Archetype, a Beauty to Aspire too, but a hell of Image to Live up to after all. And while she is all that... Consider this too.... The Emperor can be Jupiter in Sagg, or Saturn in Capricorn; he is Philosopher, and Judge - Solomon, indeed. As Mars in Aries in his most Natural expression he is also the Lover of the Young Empress, But after she Lays with her man, when she finds herself with child and she is no longer Venus, (per se) what then? The Astrological Heaven's are filled with Male Characters, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,... and so on out to Pluto; the only woman dancing that cosmic Dance, is Venus; as if to say once a young woman (Venus) has been 'caught' once she is impregnated and ceases to be a prize be pursued, but becomes instead a adult woman and a mother, she disappears behind her man, (Be he Saturn, Jupiter or Mars) and is no longer of any consequence.... and yes I know very good work is being done adding Asteroids to the Natal Chart, and Transits and providing some balance... but I would submit to you that work has just begun and we are not there yet. Astrologically again we see Venus devoured by motherhood and Disappearing from the stage. We live in Changing times, As we see stressed in the Article Quoted, What is it to be a Woman, Sec of Homeland Security, or "Spinster"; of course its not stated just that way, but is it implied? Anyway, We live in Changing times, and our Qs and Ourselves live without the comfort of knowing just what is expected of them. The Sex Roles of the past where (often very) limiting, but they did offer the Reassurance to us as social animals, follow this road, live up to this ideal, and you will be accepted; and this is very important especially to woman. Men, Well we have James Dean, and Brando; We have many images of the Young Rebel stepping outside what is expected, what is acceptable. For a man its a Heroic role, but for a woman... I dont think so, closest thing I can think of is Angelina Jolie, the Woman who is a Rebel is always looked at out of the corner of ones eye, Men Desire and fear her, woman just generally fear her. She is not a Hero; (Tomb Raider or No.) So as readers we need to be aware of that profound need to find a balance, to reassure our Q, there choices in life are there own, and they should be accepted as their own valid choices. And while we can say that, stress the Individual, "Your Life, Your Choices, Your Worth" 50 years ago, that would not have been the message, the message very much would have been, put aside silly dreams of... being Sec of Homeland Security; and conform to your role.... but not just 50 years ago, our Multicultural Society contains many more traditional pieces than the dominant media driven voice. Conservative Christian, Catholic, Muslim voices - and Yes they are all Patriarchal sects, but exactly soo, the Patriarchy may be in retreat, but its not gone, not by a long shot, and our Q may come from, or have familial attachments to such a Sect, we need to exhibit some delicacy in our approach to such realities. And while I wish I had more answers, sometimes we have to live with the Questions. But allow me share this thought with you. Reading always involves Trust... Your Q is putting their Trust in your hands, and that very often involves their sense of Self and Self Worth, Which is often a Delicate thing, and always a precious one. This is never more true than when the Qs issue touches on motherhood; treat it as such. Blessings, BB. "Some of you will notice I used the Empress from the Gendron, not Robin Wood Decks, the Empress as we find her in the Robin Wood, Is my least favorite card of the deck. A Granmotherly Image, that might well make a good Queen of Pents, I myself generally swap these cards in my head, but not the Empress, who even if Elderly - thats cool - should be Regal, like say Kate Hepburn at 60. Now thats an Empress! I am the Cup which holds Eternity. All other Cups Have their Source in Me. The Goddess Innana. Many blessings and happy 10/10/10!
